Are you dissin my use of carrots !!!! Ive caught several carp on carrot in the past and ive got 5 kilos of diced carrot in my freezer ready to go such is my confidence in it as a bait. Carp will eat all manner of stuff that lives, falls or gets thrown into their world. They have no hands to pick stuff up so they have to suck it in and taste it. Ive seen a carp swimming along trying to suck in a whole apple, it was still trying when I packed up to leave. If they dont like it you probably wont get a bite on it. I was fortunate enough to be pegged close to a guy who was doing an article for a well known mag, his task was to catch as many Carp on as many different baits as possible, he managed well over 20 by the time I packed up and went home, standard baits, boilies, various beans, sweets, and pet food all caught.

Baits ive used

Boilies, bread, corn, maize, baked beans, green beans, bannana, dog food, cat food, carrots, apple cubes, raisens, school bars (dried fruit), slugs, snails, maggots, casters, jelly babies, maltesers, marshmallows, worms, milky way, liver, peanuts, tiger nuts, macadamia nuts and jelly cubes.

Some are better than others lol and some were tried out of sheer curiosity and desperation

Off the top of my head i cant think of anything that carp wont eat. Have heard about them being caught on potatoes and on bits of foam on zig rigs.
Jelly babies banana milkyway maltesers how do you hair rig that without it splitting in half?
My mrs feds our goldfish a bit of very finely diced apple every once in a while and they love it. With Goldfish being part of the carp family im not suprised they eat.

Checkbook and pen......again!!!!

Jelly baby was easy to hair rig, bannana was a thick slice that still had the skin round the edge, milky way was moulded onto a paste spring and the malteser was good for a pop up until the water got inside and turned the honeycomb to mush then it sunk.

is that cause they swell in size like bread does when it takes on water?

no its because they are matched to hook size, they dont take on water but they do dissolve slowly so you will need to rehook a fresh one each cast. I have tried the big ones but prefer the smaller ones.

thanks. as long as i step up the hook size to match the bait then i can try the bigger ones to then.
