Alright lads, has anybody got any info on good places to fish for some decent carp on canals or rivers around the Leamington, Stratford or Banbury area? Any info appreciated, cheers, Luke. <!-- s:?: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_question.gif" alt=":?:" title="Question" /><!-- s:?: --> :)

The river avon in stratford and connecting canals are supposed to hold carp mate. You can day ticket fish the recreation ground stretch through town or buy a leamington angling book and fish it for free and other parts of the avon at wasperton.

Welcome to the site mate, glad you have joined us.

Couple of areas i have seen and caught Carp over the years are Long Itchington between the Two Boats and Blue Lias pubs and around where the GUC and Oxford canal meets in Napton On The Hill. 3 Marinas in that area and stories of a near 20 Ghostie in there. Both areas do hold 20s but theres alot of smaller Carp and litrally thousands of Bream between 1 and 2lb.

Best bet is to walk the canals in the evenings when the boat traffic has calmed down abit and look for signs of fish then get prebaiting. ;)

Checkbook and pen......again!!!!

Most of the canals in the area hold Carp but its just finding which stretches.
Warwick and Hatton Lock hold a few Carp and have been in the angling media in recent years but never fished a canal so couldnt help you on the tackle and tactics im afraid.

Thanks guys. I did go to fenny marina some time last year and tbh the fish were big, we through some bread just thinking there might be a chance of seeing a fish or 2 then about 10 came out which were all high doubles and 20's, this got me thinking about canals and the fact that Gavfish just mentioned a near 20 ghostie, that was the biigest fish that i saw that day its just a b*****d youre not allowed to fish it i have asked them though. I am defo going to start fishing them as i hardly see anyone on them. Cheers.

Its true to see no-one really bothers with canals for Carp anymore and they are really under-fished due to most people fishing Commercial fisheries. Long Itchington canal is quite heavily fished but every Carper in the village knows it does hold good fish.

the canals by me hold some more decent fish i'm sure but they are so back and forth in when they are around. They only seem to come up into my area around the spawning season then quickly vacate. I've only ever managed a 14lb one myself which was the smallest in a group of 3 i was surface fishing for. However my friend had a 33lb mirror one night which got us all down the canal to have a look at. Sadly that fish was found dead in one of the overflows the next winter. I'm sure theres still surprises to be had, and that's the thing with the canal because no ones stocked it or fished them heavily you never know what could pull on your line next.
