Checkbook and pen......again!!!!
This Winters Targets was created by Gavfish
After watching and being inspired slightly by The Great Rod Race over the last few days i have decided to have my own little mission. Mine is to catch as many different species as i can from 3 different types of water, lake, river, canal. After deciding that im having another winter after Pike/Zander as well as carp i thought i would widen my fishing skills a bit. I reckon i can do 5 different species by the end of March from each type of water. While doing this i want to fish as many different venues as possible and try and catch catch a my target size of each species along the way. I want to use this thread to help with each part and keep everyone updated with jow im doing with it.
Target sizes:
2lb Perch, 1lb Roach, 5lb Bream, 7lb Tench, 20lb Carp, 10lb Pike, 5lb Zander, 3lb Chub
Im starting with Perch on the canal. I know a stretch that holds a few good sized fish but also holds Roach, Rudd, gudgeon and a few Bream. I know Perch love lobworms but i just need to know the best way to present them and if its better legered or float fished. Or please tell me if you think that i am going about this the wrong way?
The stretch of the canal is also close to a small river and a day ticket lake that also hold Perch so could get the first species done in the first days fishing.
Anyone got any experience fishing for canal Perch they can share to help me out a bit.

Float fished lobworm not too small and feed a mixture of casters and lobworms chopped up together that should do the job
As for the 7lb tench i think you are asking alot of yourself for that one a fish of that size would be a good target for the summer let alone the winter
But the best of luck i`m sure you will have a great time trying for all of your targets keep us informed

Fishing red maggot and worm on a size 20 hook and float fishing failed to catch me anything not even a bite this afternoon. But on the plus side landed this 4lb Pike on a Roach deadbait.

Only fished 2pm until 4.45 so cant complain. Water very clear and only a couple of boats came through and it was just after these that i caught the Pike.
So thats Pike caught out a canal off the list.
Next week if its not flooding im heading to a river to see what i can land if anything....

Posted up for you mate.
Makes mine look a right baby.
Nice Pike Dean. Is the first one from Napton Resse? It looks very familiar.

Biggest Pike i have ever seen was my sisters ex when fisahing with him years ago and he landed a 16lber. Absolute monster and reckon its head was nearly as big as mine
