Fished up my local river Itching this afternoon on the spinners after the pike and Perch but after 2 hours and seeing alot of chub and roach around in the clear water decided to head home and grab my float rod. After returning around 2.30pm i fished the weir pool for a while with bread but was only getting bites from tiny fish chat were too small to do anything but peck the hookbait. I moved about 100 yards up the river and fished tight in the margins under my rod tip in just over 4 foot of water. In half hour i managed 2 Roach this size.

Then on the last cast just before dusk my float buried and rod tip bent round and after a couple of minutes scrapping i landed this 8oz beauty. She had a nice big scar on her back as well which i can only think was an old wound from a Pike attack.

Cracking fat little wild Roach with bright red eyes and fins. Not what i was after orginally but the biggest Roach i have caught in years and this is out of a river thats only 10 feet across in places.
Been given a bit of info by dog walkers on where to find a few big Chub so it wont be the last time im up there this winter. ;)

Heading out first thing for a bit of spinning on the river Avon in Warwick. After 10am depending how the fishing is going im either going to be float fishing on the river for Roach, Chub, Perch and Bream or heading to a local lake to try carping or deadbaiting. Starting to enjoy fishing for other species but its been a few weeks since i have been carping so i may swing towards doing that.
Hopefully a few photos on the forum tomorrow. :D

Had a disater on the Avon fishing for Pike and on maggots and blanked. So mid afternoon decided to head back to Southam and give the weir pool a go for the last hour before dark. Fishing red maggot i could see shadows of fish in the water hoovering up the maggots. Just before dark i struck into this 12oz Perch that in the flow of the weir pool on light line put up a nice little fight.

Had a couple of hours walking the banks of the River Itching as it flows through Long Itchington. A small shallow river with greatest depth proberly only 2 foot. After finding a likely looking spot with a bit of an undercut bank, baited up and sat back. After nothing happening in the slack flow and having seen Perch, Chub and a couple of small Pike in the flow of the river i cast into it and trotted my float down. I missed a few bites but landed this Roach the 4th run through. It was chased by a Pike half its size. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

Another few trots through the swim i had another banging bite and after nearly losing it in the underwater cabbages and it ruined any other chance i had of landing another fish. It resulted in this little Chub.

Not as big as i was after as they go to 3lb in this stretch but loads of fun anyway and marks another fish of the list from a river. :D
Heres the swim i was fishing.
