Catch report: 27th April – 4th May 2013
Number of anglers: 4

We welcomed a new group of anglers last week on their first fishing trip to France together with their spouses and 4-month old baby George for his first taste of French life! Top angler was Duncan from Dynamite Baits with 7 fish including one of our forties, Patch at 44lb 7oz. Patch last came out mid-March at 43lbs. It was taken on a fluoro Crave popup fished on a 2" choddy. There were also 5 thirties out including 2 newly discovered fish. This now brings the total number of named carp over the 30lb mark to 34. All photos are available on our web site.

Then, the first 90lb+ catfish of the year came out. This massive fish was caught by another Dynamite Bait angler, Trig, and it was caught on a section of salami from the island margin. For Trig it was the experience of a lifetime as it was his first ever catfish! Words can’t adequately describe just how hard these things pull and Trig battled the cat for over an hour until it was subdued. Unfortunately evidence of inadequate rigs was plain to see as there were a total of four of them in the massive mouth! The guys managed to remove all of them and the cat swam happily away after the minor operation.

We managed to get some footage of the capture of the other big cat that came out at 75lb cat which you can view here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aftX9KN8-Rk

Catch reports: : 4th – 11th May
Number of anglers: 1

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming back Steve and Jane who visited Beausoleil some 5 years or so ago and then again last year. Steve is a competent and experienced angler. His wife does not fish but took some stunning pictures of the lake. Steve adopted an early morning and late evening angling routine which left him free to enjoy the venue and surrounding area with his wife for the rest of the time. Considering the actual small number of fishing hours Steve did, his results are remarkable with a total of 12 fish including 5 x 30+lb carp.

7 x mirrors: 24lbs 9oz, 31bs 12oz, 31lbs 5oz (Janus), 33lbs 4oz (Hyphen), 28lbs 9oz, 25lbs 3oz, 23lbs 7oz
3 x commons: 29lbs 5oz, 31lbs 4oz, 34lbs 3oz (Nicky)
1 x Sturgeon: 16lbs 9oz
1 x Catfish: 63lbs 13oz

All fish were caught on B5 Shellfish popup over a scattering of baits from the same marginal spot from the Big Double swim.

Thanks mate, yes I'm very happy with the growth rate, I've changed my feeding plan over the winter and the results are there. And there's still a good few weeks before spawning I reckon.

It's difficult to predict this year... Some more shallow waters near us have spawned already; for the past 2 years, it's been right at the end of May for us, we don't have any action yet and the weather is staying really fresh this week so I don't think anything is going to happen yet. Always an interesting time of year!

Catch report for :11th – 18th May
Number of anglers: 2

Bob and Rob returned for their third visit at Beausoleil in as many years and their friendly competition started again straight away. Year 1, most of the action went to Rob, year 2 went Bob’s way, and this year, with a brand new set of rods and reels, Bob was ready for action. It was a tough battle, not helped by the dropping temperatures mid-week, but in the end Rob won by a small margin: 7 fish to 5! We’ll see what happens when they come back in September!

Fish of the week: 37lbs grass carp Perla
Bob raised the bar for grass carp when he landed Perla at a new lake record weight of 37lbs. This stunning grassy fell to one of carp angling’s classic baits: sweetcorn. This fish was hooked at night from under the island point tree and took 20 minutes to land. Apparently it went like a train, good job really as Bob is a train driver!

Captures of the week:
Mirror Carp: 34lbs (PB), 30lbs 4oz, 18lbs
Common Carp: 28lbs 4oz (PB), 28lbs, 25lbs 8oz, 26lbs 12oz,
Grass Carp: 37lbs (Perla, New Lake Record & PB)
Catfish: 76lbs (PB), 70lbs (PB), 64lbs
Sturgeon: 25lbs (PB)
