Thanks, it's my pleasure! Yeah, he was really pleased, I've not mentioned this but you see the way the photo is cropped... he was actually still in his pants when he was playing the fish!! It's a great photo for my archive :)

Catch report: 25th May to 1st June
Number of anglers: 4

After very tough fishing conditions the week before when we only had a few fish out, the guys enjoyed themselves it last week with 5 x 30's and 5 x 60lb cats topped off with a 93lb beast!

Mike, his brothers and cousin have been carp fishing in France for years and this time chose Beausoleil for their annual holiday. Everyone was after getting some big carp out but Gary was very clear about his ambition to break our 95lb catfish lake record which has stood for over 2 years. With catfish capable of growing at 7lbs per year, I’m sure that there are fish in excess of 100lbs lurking in the murky depths. I’m sure they’ve been hooked too but thus far no-one has managed to land one. And it was so close... Gary managed to land 6 catfish in total with the biggest one at 93lbs and he was very impressed by the excellent condition and very high average size of our resident population. All Gary’s catfish fell to dumbbell rigged worms fished over large beds of 10mm house pellet. Just to prove he wasn’t a one trick pony Gary also caught two carp from a rarely targeted marginal spot of 25 and 31lbs!

Total catches:
Mirror carp: 34lbs 8oz, 31lbs, 31lbs 8oz, 29lbs, 25lbs
Common carp: 31lbs, 30.5lbs
Catfish: 93lbs, 86lbs, 78lbs, 73lbs, 62lbs, 60lbs, 56lbs, 36lbs
Sturgeon: 25lbs, 19lbs

Catch report: 22nd to 29th June 2013

After a couple of unusual weeks of fishing due to the spawning activity, things went back to normal last week. Mick brought his family on their first holiday in France, including his 7-month old grandson, and while he and his daughter spent the week fishing for carp and catfish by the lake, the rest of the family enjoyed great days out in the area. A perfect combination of a family and fishing holiday! What Mick probably didn’t expect .... he was out-fished by his own daughter who only started carping 4 years ago! After catching a couple of mid-20 carp, Kate went on to land 2 big catfish, the largest at 73lbs. Kate now holds the catfish record at Beausoleil for a lady angler, well done! The cat was taken on a double 20mm D-liver bottom bait, 22mm Blue Oyster and a popup and took 20 minutes to land.

Beausoleil French Carp and Cats
Catch report: 29th June to 6th July 2013 and 6th to 13th July

Week of 6th July, Graham and Regan came back to Beausoleil after 10 years, with their spouses, and all enjoyed the many changes that have been implemented in the meantime. They had a very relaxing holiday and after a few slow days, the anglers finished on a high with 10 fish in the last 2 days with carp to 32lbs and catfish to 48lbs.

The week after, my mates Mark and Ritch returned after their first visit in March, this time with Jamie for his first fishing trip. The week was amazing with 8 catfish over 50lbs and 6 carp to 33lbs. The temperatures were close to 30deg during the day and the fish would not come out, not even from the surface, until the evening. However, from 3am, the lake produced fish every single night and many catfish fights took place by torch light! The tactics used were absolutely spot on for this venue: simple and light baiting with a mix of boilies, pellets and chops; most of the fish were caught on double 22mm Blue Oyster bottom baits fished over a small bed of pellet and crushed baits. All fish were caught on the standard Beausoleil carp and catfish rig. They stepped the hooklink up to 45lbs and lengthened it to 12-14" when targeting the cats specifically. Best swims were the point swims as the NE wind pushed the fish into the north island margin. Biggest catfish was 85lb, the pickup came from under a fir tree branch in front of the island point only 10 minutes after it was dropped from the bait boat!

All pictures are on the website.

Catch report: 3rd to 10th August

July has been an amazing catfish month, we’ve had 80lb+ and 90lb+ come out every single week and last week was no different. We welcomed a great group of French first timers, 2 fathers and their sons. Armed with bags of enthusiasm, open minds, plenty of our homemade Blue Oyster baits and a solid tactical approach, the lads did very well for their first trip to France. They quickly realised that fishing during the day was not going to be productive so made good use of their time by enjoying the house and had several games at the pool table. They also took the time to monitor fish activity and bait up during the day. By 6pm, everybody was back bankside and all rods were set ready for the night’s entertainment. The only thing that prevented them from having a truly amazing session was the strength of their gear. Our big catfish don't play fair or nice and will cut you off at the first opportunity. Powerful rods, big pit reels and better mainline would have swung the odds further in their favour. The big bonus though came for young anglers Max and Lewis who got to name their first 30lb+ carp which were previously unknown.

3 x Mirror Carp: 31, 30, 20 lbs
5 x Catfish: 94, 84, 78, 54, 48lbs
4 x small kittens which were removed following capture
Lost 13 fish (mainly through mainline failure)
Photos on the website under the News section.

If you are interested in seeing how you can glove an 85lb catfish out of the water, I've got some great footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEw2dopkwrs

Can be said then like some of your previous posts and tweets that the gear needs to be stepped up considerbly when it comes to fishing your lakes. Cats are another level and even if not fishing for them they will take your Carp baits and will seriously test your gear.
Will be tweeting your video for all to see in the morning when more will view it. Never caught a catfish but there some great advice to see how to handle them when landing them. ;)

Hi Gavin, thanks for the retweet :) Glad you liked the video. This is the first time I've ever been lucky enough to get footage like this. The light was incredible and I was fishing with my mates who worked really hard to help capture moments like this. Our cats continue to smash up anglers every week, no matter how much I blog about this stuff folk just aren't prepared to be totally overpowered by the awesome creatures. It's also what makes the lake so special and why customers want to come back to settle the score! Keep up the good work yourself. Cheers, Matt.
