Cant give you distances pal but what i can tell you is a the difference between the two if that helps.
Catapults scatter the boilies over a small area where as a throwing stick you can get them in a much smaller area as the boilies come out 1 at a time and straight.

Checkbook and pen......again!!!!

Use a throwing stick myself. Can easily get 50 yards with it and could get more if needed. Once your first boilie hits the water you got an easy target if not using a marker and you can get them in a very tight area.

Jonny the catapault you said you have already got will do fine for medium distances. A throwing stick can be made quite easily with an old rod or pole section (if you have one) and you can use that for a few sessions before spending your dosh on an expensive one with a brandname on it.

Like Gav said above catapaults will spread the bait around a small area (make sure you use baits all the same size) bigger baits will go further than small ones so if you have a mix of pellets and some broken boilies the area will spread out with the small stuff closer to you.

I prefer to use a catapault and get some bait in before the seagulls home in on the sound and nick it.

Top tip: If you are using a stick to get your baits out then wait for any anglers further down the lake to start first then when the seagulls are occupied with their boilies get some of yours fired in quickly before they catch on.

Had a little look around on the net and randomly have found this if you want to try making your own. Seems quite good to me. ;)

thanx for the quick feedback. ;)
looks like best to have both in the tackle box to cover all lakes and situations <!-- s:idea: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_idea.gif" alt=":idea:" title="Idea" /><!-- s:idea: --> <!-- s:ugeek: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_ugeek.gif" alt=":ugeek:" title="Uber Geek" /><!-- s:ugeek: -->

both is better... gives you a better choice. plus a good catty will also fire out particle/ground bait adding another string to your baiting bow.

Yep you got it ;) Biscuits tend to spread out more though because of shape and the wind.
