Stockton Reservoir

Tough going today. Had to move swims a couple of times before connecting with fish.
Best of the day (actually landed) was a little common carp of around 3lb.
Had a huge fish on just beforehand for around 10 seconds that bent the 3.25lb TC rod double, before the rubber in the Guru Safe-X feeder snapped & I lost it. Gutted!
On that note, has anyone had similar experiences with the Safe-X system feeders? This is the second time this has happened, think I may steer clear in future.

Took this video on my previous visit...

PS. As I'm new to this sort of fishing, is this a small Common or a Crucian? Thanks.

Already a topic on here but locked it now so can start a new one. Have a look here for a few ideas.

Check out the Spring Social 2011 thread in the General Discussion Section of the forum to.
Get yourself a method feeder, a bag of vitalin, a tin of hemp, a tin of corn and a few boilies. Keep casting it on the same spot and within a few casts as long as they are fairly accurate then your swim will be bubbling away as the carp rip up the bottom. ;)
Also never ever ignore the margins especially in the evening. Bait up in front of the peg next to you all day then get a rod on it in the evening and fish a big healthy chunk of luncheon meat and watch your rod tip bend round. :D
Word of advice, have a look at Stockton Resse on google earth and see where the reed beds were a few years back before they chopped them back. The roots are still there!!!! You will lost a lot of tackle in them. This is also the case in the margins so make sure you fish right in the middle of the peg next to you to avoid this. Was last fishing there back in june and done 20 hours for about 15 carp and about an hours sleep all night because of the action. Am due a session on there soon before the winter gets here for a few bends in the rod so will let you know when i am going to try and meet you and give you a few pointers mate.

Water level is extremely low at the moment and i mean low. Every take i had yesterday there was a bow wave from the carp running so guessing it was less than 2 feet deep!!
Fishing is slow during the day and firmly believe that the carp come onto the feed around tea time when most people have gone home.
Hope this helps anyone heading up there soon. ;)

Prices have dropped until March 31st 2012 to £5 for 2 rods. This lakes always good for a run or 2 even in the coldest winter weather. ;)

Went up there today for a walk round, chat with a few anglers and a word with the baliff. No sign of the baliff but a couple of lads who were fishing said the carp have now pushed out into the middle of the lake into the deeper water but are coming into the margins as it gets dark. Chod rigs and bright pop-ups were their advice.

Advice i have been given today is head for pegs 53-58 and fish off the back of the third island on your left. Bit of a cast but carp seem to be holding there at the moment trying to avoid the angling pressure, ;)

Had a chat with an angler fishing today and the baliff. Lad fishing says only place he can get a bite over the last month is off the back of the island fishing on peg 53-56 and fishing pva bags and floro pop-ups.
Baliff tells me the same. Only place he has seen the carp rolling is off that island but the lakes been very quiet over the last few weeks so they havent been taking alot of pressure. Water is stillvery low but has risen alot from what it was at the back end of the summer.

Been tough going for the carp here with the drop of temperture the last few days. The carp seemed to have moved back out towards the middle of the lake in the deeper water. Not surprisingly there was no-one fishing there in the pouring rain today.

Talked to a young lad that came round on his bike today while he was fishing and he was telling me that all the big Carp were took out of here and moved to other British Waterways lakes before the lease was given back to the Landlord of the Blue Lias pub. Not sure how true this is but i havent seen anything much bigger than 15lb in a couple of years  but i dont fish it as regularly was i used to.
Also on the board in the carp pack there was a sign saying get a free days fishing if you have 6 used day tickets, see the baliff.
Worth it for the regulars and good if its kept going over the winter.
