Had some great tips off this lad i meet in the pub the other day, he said to freeline 1 hookbait in the margins.. Anyone ever tried that?
Sounds a great idea and i think i will put a bit of putty down the line as well to keep it pined down. ;)

Don't spod, use the margins. all the things that we were told by the bailiff but the free line sounds a great idea

If you freeline a bait then you will have to think about how far you need to cast it? I know the margins isnt a massive cast but what I mean is the further from the rod tip/alarm/bobbin then the further the carp can travel with the bait in its mouth before a bite registers. If you are fishing with the bait right under the rod tip then it will register almost straight away, you will probably notice the line move first before the alarm registers. I used to fish with grains of corn directly on the hook and liquidised corn poured right into the extreme margins, I would not bother with alarms, instead I would fish with an open bail arm and keep a hold of my rod, once I saw the line moving I simply lifted the rod and held on for dear life. As well as liquidised corn I also used to poor in mashed bread and use flake on the hook.
