OK I went to the thinking shed and I did manage to get a square pear lead to drop off and the hook was just in a link clip directly off the lead but I dont think it would be very castable and it involved two swivels a clip some fiddling about with some tubing and it was just too damned fiddly to be worthwhile.
any other ideas guys?

Cheating slightly but what about using a incredibly small hair rig connected to the swivel so fishing as you usually would but with the hair barely a few centimetres.
