Shorter Rigs

Have had to shorten my rigs at one lake i fished because i believed the carp were getting away with not being hook too many times. My catch rate improved significantly. Shorten my rigs from about 6-7 inches down to 4. Has anyone else found this or have any views?

I use short rigs about 2-3 inches if im fishing a bit of plastic corn over a bed of particles. Reason being the carp will be feeding in a small area and wont need to be moving very far before the next mouthfull.

Was fishing boilie chopped with pop-up on the hair over a scattering of boilies. Think after seeing underwater carp films and seen the amount of times they get away with it made me think to shorten the hooklength. Less movement from less braid so the carp has less chance of getting away. The shortened hair pulls down into the carps mouth quicker as the lead is picked up easier to hook them.

has anyone tried a hook clipped directly to the swivel of the lead without any line?

i would think the lead would smash the carp eyes if its that short..

maybe not then.. but i would think the fish would feel the lead on the bait pick up

surely as the line moves this would inturn twist the swivel aswell causing hook movement?

well my question has certainly made you think, however I personally havent tried it and I dont know anyone who has.

I think the lead would be closer to the mouth than the eyes and im at a loss to think how you could get the lead to drop off, im going to my thinking shed to have a dabble and see what I can come up with.
