Well i rested my baiting spot for over a week.. even though i have seen them topping over my bait all week.. so today i put my rigs on the area and had a brace of 20s with one in the net and one in the retention sling the common was a recapture.. thumbsup

Weather this afternoon was a little crazy, i decided to walk down the local canal with a rod chair and bag of bait after the zander seeing as the sun was shining, soon as i got to my spot the heavens opened and the was sitting through a hail storm with nothing for shelter but a little golfing umbrella. Managed a little zed about 2lb though so least I didn't blank!

Pretty much mate, although they are said to prefer fresh water dead baits to sea but the canal zander aren't too fussy. They can apparently when larger be very finicky biters and drop baits with the smallest amount of resistance. But my local canal is full of little ones averaging around 1-3lb ,my mate had a 7 and that was the biggest I've witnessed , but they are good sport and its free. I just take my stalker rod and a little pike float and a wire trace with a single barbless size 2 and use half a roach . With the canal I always get a feeling like there's always a chance for that big surprise fish aswell. It's an untapped water really with lots of secrets.

suppose i can get things started..
14lb pike from the 1st of October ( start of season ) was trying to explain to the guy how to use a touch screen phone during the photo..

couple of little zeds from a session on the canal last week

all set up waiting for the first pike of the season!
